The Timeless Char Dham Yatra

The Char Dham Yatra is one of Hinduism's most sacred pilgrimages, a journey to the four holiest shrines nestled in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand. This eleven day odyssey from Delhi takes you to Yamunotri, the source of the Yamuna river in the west, through Gangotri, the origin point of the Ganges, eastward to the majestic Kedarnath temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, and finally to Badrinath, the abode of Lord Vishnu in the north.

Each temple holds profound spiritual significance and sits amid breathtaking Himalayan scenery. The journey winds through misty mountain passes, ancient pilgrim routes and verdant valleys, offering daily encounters with devotion, natural beauty and local culture. From the thermal springs of Yamunotri to the confluence points around Badrinath, every stage of this yatra is laden with meaning and majesty.

Best Time to Visit the Char Dham

The Char Dham temples remain open from mid-April through October, with the most favorable conditions occurring during the post-monsoon period from September to October, when clear skies provide stunning Himalayan vistas and fewer pilgrims create a more intimate spiritual experience. May and June offer pleasant weather and full accessibility, though higher crowds and temperatures. Winter closure from November to April means all temples are shut and deities are moved to winter sanctuaries in lower elevations.
