Accountant

About the Role

We are looking for an Accountant to handle the books of our travel agency in Malad West, Mumbai. Travel accounting has its own rhythm. Every tour package involves customer receipts, hotel, airline and transport payments, and taxes that need to be applied correctly.

You will raise invoices, record receipts and payments, reconcile supplier and bank accounts, and keep our statutory records in order. Experience in a travel agency or tour company is a strong advantage, since you will already understand how bookings turn into entries.

Key Responsibilities

• Raise customer invoices for tour packages, air tickets and visa services, and record receipts against each booking.
• Process supplier payments to hotels, airlines, transporters and destination partners after checking them against bookings.
• Reconcile bank accounts, payment gateway settlements and supplier statements.
• Maintain day to day books in accounting software such as Tally.
• Apply GST, TDS and TCS correctly on travel services, and prepare working data for returns.
• Track customer outstanding and follow up with the sales team on pending collections.
• Prepare booking wise cost and margin reports for management.
• Support the company's chartered accountant with records needed for audits and filings.

Experience and Requirements

• 1 to 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a travel agency, tour operator or ticketing company.
• Hands on experience with Tally or similar accounting software and with MS Excel.
• Working knowledge of GST and TDS. Knowledge of TCS on overseas tour packages is a plus.
• Experience of bank and supplier reconciliations.
• Accuracy with numbers, and integrity in handling company and customer money.

Qualifications

• B.Com or an equivalent degree in commerce or accounting.
• M.Com or CA Inter is welcome but not essential.

• Previous experience of travel agency accounting.
• Familiarity with airline and consolidator billing and with payment gateway settlements.
• Experience of preparing booking wise profitability reports.
