About Ladakh

High passes, monasteries and a cold desert

Ladakh is a high altitude desert at over 11,000 feet, where Buddhist monasteries sit above the valleys and the roads cross some of the highest motorable passes in the world. Every one of our Ladakh packages spends time in and around Leh, at Shanti Stupa and Leh Palace, before heading north over Khardung La to the sand dunes and monasteries of Nubra Valley.

Discover Ladakh adds the Sham valley monasteries, Magnetic Hill and a night at Pangong Lake. Exotic Ladakh with Turtuk visits Turtuk, a Balti village on the Pakistan border, before Pangong. Best of Leh-Ladakh spends two nights in Nubra with a day trip to Turtuk. Classic Leh-Ladakh With Srinagar is the road route: it starts in Srinagar, crosses the Zojila Pass to Kargil and reaches Leh through Mulbekh and Lamayuru.

When to go

Best time to visit Ladakh

Ladakh is a summer destination. The high passes are open from about June to September, the best window for all four packages, with July and August the peak months and long, mild days. September and early October bring crisp air, clear skies and fewer crowds.

May can still see snow on the high passes, and from November the passes close and Ladakh cannot be reached by road. On the Srinagar route, the Srinagar to Leh highway usually opens by early June.
