Himachal Pradesh
Colonial Shimla, the valleys around Manali, Tibetan McLeod Ganj, the meadows of Khajjiar and the remote monasteries of Spiti. Five Himachal Pradesh road trips by private car.
About Himachal
Himachal Pradesh is best seen on a road trip. Our packages climb from the plains into the hills: Shimla with its Mall Road, Christ Church and Jakhoo Temple; Manali with the Hadimba Devi Temple, the Vashisht hot springs, Solang Valley and the drive to Rohtang Pass; Dharamshala and McLeod Ganj, home of the Dalai Lama Temple; and Dalhousie, close to the Khajjiar meadow often called the Mini Switzerland of India.
Classic Himachal Pradesh is the Shimla and Manali circuit. Heavenly Himachal and Highlights Of Himachal Pradesh add Dharamshala and Dalhousie for a fuller loop. Fascinating Himachal Pradesh begins at the Golden Temple in Amritsar and the Wagah Border ceremony before heading to Dalhousie and Dharamshala. Off-Beat Spiti is the most remote of the five, through Kinnaur and Spiti to Chandratal Lake and back via Manali.

When to go
March to June and September to November are the best months for most of Himachal, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures for sightseeing in Shimla, Manali and Dharamshala. October and November bring autumn colours and good trekking weather. Winter, from December to February, brings snow to Shimla and the high hills, though some roads and passes may be affected.
July and August are monsoon months, with heavy rain and a risk of landslides. Spiti is different: Off-Beat Spiti is best from June to September, when the high passes are open, and the region closes from November.
